As a member of the future workforce, it is imperative to your happiness that you choose a career that suits your temperament, skills, and needs.  In this WebQuest, you will identify and investigate the career that best suits your own personal values, tastes, and goals.  The following tasks will guide you to explore and decide what type of career best suits you.

Extensive site sponsored by Cornell University has information to help students explore specific careers and match their own skills as they decided on a career path.

Job Smart
This site is packed with information about planning your career. What kind of training or education is required? What can you earn? What kind of environment will you work in? What's hot? What's not? Some sites include personal stories from people working in the field: how did they move (or stumble) into their current work situation? What advice would they give newcomers?
 

Career Outlooks
The  2000 - 01 Occupational Outlook Handbook is an excellent starting place to search for employment information on specific occupations based on data supplied by the federal government.

The Process

To accomplish the task, what steps should the learners go through? Use the ordered list tag (ol) which will automatically number the steps in the procedure. Be sure to put a (li) before each item in the list, and close off the list with a (/ol). (Use angle brackets rather than parentheses).

1. You will first have to identity your own personal characteristics and values with a Personal Characteristic Inventory website.
2. You will identify careers that match you as closely as possible in the Career Explorations websites.
3. You will narrow your options to one or two career fields that you find acceptable,
4. You will identify specific steps you must take to accomplish your career goals.  For instance; what is the educational attainment necessary, how much time will it take, how much money will it cost, etc.  You can find this information in the Occupational Outlook Handbook.


Learning Advice

Keep in mind that you will use text, pictures, and sounds to develop a slideshow (in hyperstuto communicate your findings.
You will use the program Inspiration to map the steps you must take to accomplish your career goals.  You may use this diagram to develop part of your hyperstudio stack.


Assessment

2.  You will develop a hyperstudio stack that will include at least four cards:

  • 1st Card - Identification of your own personal characteristics and values,
  • 2nd and 3rd Cards - Identify a career that best matches your own personal...and describe that career in as much detail as possible (i.e., work duties, pay, hours, responsibilities, etc.),
  • 4th  and 5th Cards - Identify the specific steps you must take to accomplish employment in your chosen career.
  • Each card and all of its information be pertinent to the subject, it must have:

    By doing this project, you have identified the type of career which best matches you, thus making your career and life more fulfilling.  You have used the tools at your disposal to create a plan and understanding of what it is that you want to do with the rest of your life.  Lastly, you used huperstudio to create a stack that illustrates your understanding and communicates that understanding to others.
